Streamy Revamps & Leaves Beta

Friday, May 8th, 2009

For a long time I’ve been looking for a website that houses absolutely everything I look for in a personalised start page… and for as long as I can remember, I’ve had to settle for iGoogle. Don’t get me wrong – Google’s start page is absolutely stellar, and I can almost absolutely everything from feed reading, to checking Facebook, updating Twitter and so on.

However for a fair while I had also been eyeing up a contender for it’s replacement in the form of Streamy. You may remember the site from my previous review of the site that had a fair bit of attention.

Anyway it’s been a fair while since I’d used the service, and I decided to check it out again, and discovered that the devs had revamped the site’s look and functionality. After having a chat with site co-founder Jonathan Gray, I found out that they had “quietly launched” out of beta, and hadn’t yet advertised the fact. This is great news, as I highly recommend the site to anyone – and here’s why.

5 More Streamy Invites…

Friday, September 7th, 2007

I check my email this morning… and whaddya know – the awesome guys over at Streamy.com have given me another 5 invites to give away!

Free Streamy Invites

So – I’m not gonna be one of the people that sell the invites… I’m just going to give them away!

If you want in on one of the most desired closed betas for a site that I can remember – post your name and email address in a comment on this blog, and you’ll find an invite winging its way to your inbox. :)

More streamy stuff!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I’ve already blogged about streamy twice today…. but for some reason when I find out something new, it doesn’t seem to go with my last blog. ><

Anyway… Streamy beta invites were made available today, which I’ve made great use of (only one left!) and after a bit of maintainence early this morning, a few new features were implemented (site co-creator Jonathan Gray told me they were “hiding”… sneaky guy he is). The mashup with Google Maps I’ve already mentioned, but a nice feature is the “Upstream” facilities.

These are basically RSS-feeds from other social sites like Pownce, Jaiku, Last.fm, Digg, Twitter, Facebook and even Google Reader (the shared stories). You enter these in the profile screen under “Upstream Sources” by entering your username details, or URLs in the case of Facebook and Google Reader – this information is then fed to your own profile screen.

Here’s a couple of screenshots to illustrate – Firstoff, adding a username in the Upstream Sources section of your profile:

And below is what the incoming stream looks like on your profile:

More to come soon, if Jon’s sneaky hints are anything to go by. ;)

I spoke too soon… Streamy Invites Available!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

In my last blog (that I literally just added…) I advised that there were no Streamy invites available…

Lo and behold I check my email as soon as I hit submit… and I have 5 invites! :D

So… I’ve shot off two invites to the two users that posted on my Streamy review (as promised… and enjoy Zak & Paula), so the first3 comments on this blog post will get an invite guaranteed! :D

Streamy Includes Google Maps Mashup

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

As one of the extremely lucky few beta testers of Streamy, I can safely say the site is going from strength to strength already – after a little maintainence today, some new features were implemented.

Probably the most notable addition was the “Geostatus” block on the friends page… which uses Google Maps to show you where your friends are (if they’ve updated that part of their profile).

From what I’ve seen so far, Streamy is quickly making sure that upon release it will become an indispensable addition to everyone’s bookmarks – make sure you’re in at the ground floor on this one asap. ;)

On other Streamy news – the latest post on the official blog by site co-creator Don Mosites advises that they “Won’t, and don’t intend to kill digg”… click the link above to read a little more.

Anyway I’ll post more info on Streamy as it becomes available… and there’s no sign of any beta invites for us just yet – but I’ll keep you posted on that anyway. :)
