Blood The Last Vampire Trailer

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I’m a big fan of the anime (not seen the series yet…), but the live action trailer looks very very nice!

Anime details:
The story is set in the American Yokota Air Base located in post-WWII Japan, a few months before the beginning of the Vietnam War. Its main protagonist is a girl named Saya, who hunts hematophagous bat-like creatures called chiropterans for a secret organization known as the Red Shield.

Live Action incarnation:
In May 2006, Bill Kong, producer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero, announced that he was producing a live-action film adaptation of Blood: The Last Vampire, directed by Ronny Yu, and, like the source anime film, primarily filmed in English rather than Japanese. The film’s setting, however, will be shifted to 1948 at a United States Army camp in Tokyo, shortly after the conclusion of World War II during the American occupation of Japan.

Wanted Review

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov
Starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann
Rated: 18 (UK) / R (US)
Release Date: June 27, 2008

There are a few words I flat out cannot use to describe this movie: subtle, conservative, reserved, delicate… this is the kind of terminology you use to describe the bouquet of a fine wine. However, words I can use include funny, thrilling, insane, awesome, loud, brash… I could go on… but then I’d have to start checking out thesaurus definitions of “bonkers.”

Wanted is the U.S. debut movie by Night Watch and Day Watch director Timur Bekmambetov, based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and JG Jones. Just to clarify, I know nothing of the reference material (yet… I’m going to buy the book now though), but in case you’re worried about how faithful the movie is to its origins, have a read of this recent interview with Millar, and set your mind at ease.

Dark Sector Review

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Title: Dark Sector (Xbox 360)
Genre: Action
ESRB Rating: Mature
Developer: Digital Extremes/D3 Publisher
Platform: Xbox 360Playstation 3

Do you by any chance remember the 80’s movie Krull? You know the one — the prince goes to save the princess (and the world) with the aid of flying horses, a Cyclops, and Liam Neeson? Ok now have you ever wondered what a game of it would be like if there was more gore, guns, telekinesis, and game dynamics ripped from Gears of War? Well now you don’t have to.

Dark Sector is a fairly new release from the same developer as DS and Xbox Live hit Puzzle Quest, Infinite Interactive, in what appears to be the studio’s first crack at the adult gamer market, and they’re not doing too badly it seems… and to be fair if you’re going to emulate a game, Gears of War is a great choice.

Deus Ex 3 *drool*

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Ricey asked me today what my favorite game of all time was… and after a quick ponder, I gave “Deus Ex” as my answer (Ricey’s was Super Mario Bros 3…. bah! He’s such a Ninty fanboy sometimes! lol ;) ).

The original Deus Ex was so fresh and… well… original. It was/is the perfect mix of FPS, Roleplay, Stealth and Action I’ve ever seen in a game, with an awesome convoluted storyline and multiple endings – and I played it a hell of a lot. Its just a shame Invisible War was such a letdown.

However, Eidos have a chance to redeem themselves with Deus Ex 3… and a new teaser trailer has just been released for the game. It doesn’t give away much… but doesn’t the voiceover sound like J.C Denton?

Anyway here’s the teaser for your perusal.

Shoot ‘Em Up

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Title: “Shoot ‘Em Up”
Starring: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti
Director: Michael Davis

Shoot Em Up

Synopsis: A hitman (Giamatti) has been hired to take out a mother and her child… and a carrot-eating Samaritan Mr. Smith (Owen) decides to help the mother out by killing a never-ending slew of henchmen in some imaginative, and often hilarious ways… all to keep the baby alive.

Review: I love this movie – after seeing the trailer (below) I wasn’t sure if this was just a balls-out action movie with some funny parts here and there, but Shoot ‘Em Up is hilarious all the way through.

Witty one-liners that would even make James Bond groan, the most ridiculous action set-pieces I’ve seen in a movie (the sex scene where Owen & Bellucci are going at it, with Owen gunning down bad guys without breaking his rhythm… killing the last bad guy and saying “Talk about blowing your load” lol).

Shoot ‘Em Up is unashamedly over the top, but it works really well – Owen’s carrot-munching, Bugs Bunny-quoting deadpan one liners, Giamatti’s almost Elmer Fudd-like hitman that keeps making excuses to his wife as to why he’s late etc… the movie is tongue-in-cheek all the way, and often laugh out loud funny.

I’d urge you to go see this now… this is probably the most enjoyable movie I’ve watched all year.
