Zack Snyder launches Cruel & Unusual Films

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Dawn of the Dead, 300 & Watchmen director Zack Snyder has launched his own production company Cruel & Unusual Films Inc. and with it, Zack’s personal Facebook page.

Snyder has quickly become one of my favorite directors over the past 5 years – his remake of Dawn of the Dead was stunning, and the adaptation of 300 was absolutely spot on. His movies have made him rival one of my other favorite directors Bryan Singer… and The Usual Suspects is my favorite movie of all time.

Ok… Zack Snyder is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors… not content with a fucking awesome reboot of one of the best zombie movies ever made, as well as bringing 300 to the big screen with such visionary style… the director is bringing Watchmen to cinemas next year, and the trailer looks amazing:

Oh and for reference, the dude at the end of the trailer isn’t me! lol

300 Movie Poster

Title: 300
Starring: Gerard Butler, Lena Heady, Dominic West, David Wenham, Rodrigo Santoro
Director: Zack Snyder

Synopsis: Based upon Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name, 300 chronicles the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. The Spartans, lead by King Leonidas (Butler) face off against the invading hordes of the Persian Empire, lead by King Xerxes (Santoro).

Review: Awesome. Zack Snyder does the comicbook proud in this bloody, yet visually stunning battle movie. The choreography of the fight scenes is spectacular, with Spartan soldiers spinning and slicing limbs off here & there.

As far as the historical content is concerned, 300 is a glamorised and stretched version of the truth… but as long as you realise its based on a comic, and don’t scrutinize the history behind it too much, you’re going to enjoy this.

If you like gore, great fight choreography, a bit of nudity (who doesn’t?!) and visuals to make you drool… you’re gonna love 300.
